Boo's Biography

The illustrations for this site where provided by Glyn White a friend of Boo's and fellow member of the SCBWI.

Boo Irwin was born (Stephanie Williams) on the 8th May 1978. Turning 30  was both a terrifying and exciting prospect.

Born to extremely loving parents Boo spent her childhood creating stories with her best friend and sister, Samantha. It was her childhood creative streak that gave her the idea to become a writer and at the age of 15 she wrote her first attempt at a horror novel entitled Night Killers. It was pretty bad, but at the time she submitted it to a number of publishers and received encouraging responses which gave her the confidence to continue writing and dreaming that one day she might be a published Author too.

After completing a BA Hons in Literature she proceeded to move out into the big wide world and began working in Offices to fund her need for stamps, printer paper and print ribbons. Writing can be an extremely expensive passion! She also had to pay for her MA in Modern Literature Studies, which after numerous arguments with her tutors regarding her Dissertation in AIDS Literature she abandoned and accepted a Postgraduate Diploma instead. “The AIDS Literature was the easy part, it was tying it all in with Modernism which was eventually my downfall. In my head there were no movements, there was just good or bad writing.”

Boo currently works as a Legal Secretary in a Manchester Law Firm and runs the North West Region of the Society of Children’s Book Writers & Illustrators (SCBWI). She has completed what she hopes is the penultimate draft of Being Lucky and is preparing for a final re-edit and re-format. Now she is working on her second young adult novel entitled Myth, an action romance about Norse myths.

Boo currently lives in Greater Manchester with her beloved dog, Rex.
